Cypress is one of the most pool-dense communities in the Houston metro. The master-planned developments along Barker Cypress, Mason Road, and Mueschke Road — Bridgeland, Blackhorse Ranch, Towne Lake, Cypress Creek Lakes — have been building homes with pools at a high clip for a decade, and the backyards in these neighborhoods are where a significant portion of our work comes from.

But Cypress also has a Harvey problem that is specific to its geography. The Addicks and Barker Reservoirs, which managed the Harvey catastrophe for much of northwest Houston, have a watershed that covers large portions of Cypress. Properties in the Cypress Creek Parkway corridor and the neighborhoods around Barker Cypress Road were at the edge of reservoir inundation zones during Harvey. The post-Harvey insurance landscape, the updated FEMA maps, and the awareness that property owners gained about their drainage vulnerability make Cypress one of the most drainage-conscious turf markets we work in.

I spent years in pool construction managing projects in Bridgeland and Blackhorse Ranch before shifting to landscape work. In Cypress, that question has real stakes.

Pool tile selections in Cypress trend toward blue-gray and aqua tones — the same palette that was popular in the master-planned community buildout of the 2010s.
